IS Oil Spill Preparedness, Prevention and Responce

The responsibilities of the Environment Agency of Iceland ( include  the evaluation of environmental impact assessment and development plans, the protection of the marine environment, and the coordination of pollution emergency response. The Icelandic Coast Guard ( acts on behalf the Environment Agency in the field e.g. regarding pollution monitoring and response to pollution incidents. Iceland is signatory to a number of international agreements in this field, such as the OSPAR and MARPOL Conventions and the Copenhagen Agreement.
