IS Oil Spill Preparedness, Prevention and Responce


The responsibilities of the Environment Agency of Iceland (www.ust.is/the-environment-agency-of-iceland) include  the evaluation of environmental impact assessment and development plans, the protection of the marine environment, and the coordination of pollution emergency response. The Icelandic Coast Guard (www.lhg.is/English) acts on behalf the Environment Agency in the field e.g. regarding pollution monitoring and response to pollution incidents. Iceland is signatory to a number of international agreements in this field, such as the OSPAR and MARPOL Conventions and the Copenhagen Agreement.
